CDAE

The CDAE is led by Director Professor Abd Karim Alias and Deputy Director Professor Hanafi Atan and is currently located at the Eureka Complex, USM. The centre is also mandated to implement the USM APEX Transformation Plan by developing and conducting activities focused on nurturing and learning. Through the establishment of the CDAE, USM has taken another step towards advancing the higher education environment within the university and also towards the ultimate aim of the MOHE: to turn the country into a centre of excellence for higher education. CDAE is destined to become an important component in the advancement of T&L activities at USM. The objectives of the CDAE include:
  • Transformation of teaching and learning (T&L) towards excellence to parallel the National Higher Education Strategic Plan, National e-Learning Policy, and the USM APEX Transformation Plan by encouraging the implementation of Student Centred Learning (SCL);
  • Planning and execution of continuous personal and professional development programmes to increase the quality and excellence of T&L;
  • Encouraging the use of technology-enhanced learning in T&L among lecturers through exposure and continuous training;
  • Planning and creating Open Course Ware (OCW), especially within sustainability related programs;
  • Coordinating and encouraging lifelong programs offered by Responsibility Centres; and
  • Becoming the one-stop centre of reference for lecturers and students regarding T&L. The experts in the CDAE also provide consultation services about various aspects of T&L.
